Investigación

CIC nanoGUNE focuses its research activities on the following four major strategic areas:

  • Physics of low-dimensional structures, nanostructures and nanoscale structured complex systems.
  • Synthesis, assembling, and nanofabrication of nanomaterials (nanoparticles, nanotubes, thin films, nanocomposites) and nanostructured materials.
  • Development of nanodevices and its impact on molecular electronics, spintronics, nanomagnetism, and nanophotonics.
  • Biofunctional nanoparticles and nanobiotechnology.

Consolider Programme

The project CREATION OF A NEW R&D CENTER FOR THE COORDINATION, DEVELOPMENT, AND MANAGEMENT OF NANOSCIENCE RESEARCH IN THE BASQUE COUNTRY funded by the programme Consolider-Ingenio (MICINN), is aimed to contribute to the impulse and launch of a new Interdisciplinary Center for R&D (CIC nanoGUNE Consolider), as a new organizational unit, in the framework of the NANOBASQUE initiative, a specific strategy designed by the Department of Industry, Trade, and Tourism of the Basque Government for the business development of nanoscience in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country (CAPV).

Highlights

01/07/2010 FEI bets heavily on nanogune's Advanced Electron-Microscopy Laboratory

An Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM) and a Dual-Beam Focused Ion Beam (FIB) nanofabrication tool have been installed at nanoGUNE’s Advanced Electron Microscopy Laboratory. The purchase of these already-functional tools and a still-to-come spherical-aberration corrected high-resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) is part of an ambitious cooperation agreement signed between nanoGUNE and FEI, leading supplier of high-end electron microscopes, that also includes five collaborative research projects together with demonstration and educational activities. ...

29/3/2010 Nano-Bio integration to improve the quality of eyesight

nanoGUNE contributes with its nanotechnology expertise to the CENIT project ‘Customatized Eye Care (CeyeC)’. Granted by the Spanish Government, nanoGUNE has been collaborating since January 2010 with biocompanies in the development of new diagnostic tools for the pathologies of the eye surface, as an example of nanothecnology interdisciplinarity. ...

13/3/2010 nanoGUNE building finalist in the 2010 COAVN Architecture Awards

The nanoGUNE building, designed by the architect Javier San José, has been remarked as one of the finalists in the COAVN Architecture Awards in the category of Community Buildings, awarded by the Official Association of Architects of the Basque Country. ...

nanoGUNE in the RAITH 2010 Calendar

One photograph a spider-like nanostructure created in nanoGUNE’s labs. has been selected by RAITH company to illustrate their 2010 Calendar. ...

28/01/2010 Electron Microscopy Lab.

Aiming for establishing a world level expertise in characterization of nanoscale materials and processes, CIC nanoGUNE has recently purchased a family of high-end electron microscopes including ESEM, SEM, FIB and TEM/STEM tools from FEI Company (Netherlands) ...
