International Day of Women and Girls in Science - 2018

Thursday, February 08, 2018 (All day) to Friday, February 09, 2018 (All day)

In order to achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls, and further achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, the United Nations General Assembly decided in 2016 to declare 11th February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

On 8 and 9 February, CIC nanoGUNE, the Materials Physics Center (MPC, CSIC - UPV/EHU), CIC biomaGUNE and the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) will celebrate that day, organizing a series of events which aim is to bring visibility to the activities of women working in scientific reserach, to break with the archetypical masculine roles usually attributed to science and technology, and encourage scientific careers choices among girls and teenagers.

Events

1. Do you know any women in science?

February 8, 9:15 - 12:15 at nanoGUNE and biomaGUNE

School children

This is a workshop for girls and boys between 10 and 11 years old. The female researchers of the organizing centers will lead different activities to highlight the role of women in science over history and perform science demonstrations. The workshop will have a duration of 2 hours.

This year, around 50 students from Ibai Ikastola and a group from San Alberto Magno Deutsche Schule will participate in this workshop.

2. Donostia: City of women researchers
