Superconductivity in organic intercalated MoS₂

The intercalation of guest molecular species within the interlayer gaps of layered materials provides a strategy to generate molecular/2D material superlattices with different properties to that of the pristine material. In this project we explore the emergence of superconductivity in both bulk and exfoliated MoS2 samples intercalated via an electrochemical approach with two quaternary alkyl-ammonium liquid electrolytes (Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide and Tetraethylammonium bromide). The results show that intercalation with Tetraethylammonium bromide (TEAB) gives rise to a superconducting transition at 3.9k for bulk crystals while TEAB-intercalated flakes also present this drop in resistance with a residual value.
