Cavity-modified ground-state chemical reactivity

Polaritonic chemistry is an emerging field which studies the potential to manipulate chemical structure and reactivity when matter excitations and confined light modes are strongly coupled forming polaritons (hybrid light-matter states). While the general theory of polaritonic chemistry due to electronic strong coupling is well established [1], theoretical studies describing the modification of ground-state chemical reactivity through strong coupling between molecular vibrations and microcavity modes [2] are still missing. In this talk I will give a general introduction to this subject and then discuss some results of our recent work [3] dealing on how ground-state chemical reactivity may be modified in a cavity QED escenario.
