CIC08: FUNCTIONAL TEXTILE MATERIALS
Future textile shall incorporate a multitude of physical, chemical and/or biological functionalities. Those range from protection against weather conditions to observation of vital functions and personal protection against mechanical impact. To achieve such functionalities, optical, electronic, mechanical and/or antimicrobial properties have to be integrated into the textile.
In this master project the prospective student will explore the functionalization of conventional textile samples by intermixing the typically polymeric textile with inorganic materials, thereby creating hybrid materials. The primary target will be to simultaneously achieve improved electronic and (de)wetting properties while preserving the original coloration and haptics of the textile. The materials will be fabricated and characterized with a variety of physicochemical techniques including electron microscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, XRD and others. The Master project is at the intersection of inorganic, physical, organic chemistry and physics and combines experimental work in a chemical laboratory with various state-of-the-art characterization methods. The work will be conducted in the Nanomaterials group at CIC nanoGUNE.
Description of the research group:
The activity of the Nanomaterials group is focused on the synthesis and functionalization of materials. Its research programme has been divided into thin-film coating, hybrid inorganic-organic materials, and bio-organic nanomaterials. For more information, see our website at https://www.nanogune.eu/en/research/groups/nanomaterials
If you are a master student with interest for cutting edge research in hybrid materials, please contact Mato Knez (email@example.com).
