INPhINIT. “La Caixa” Doctoral Fellowship Programme

The program

”la Caixa” Foundation grants 65 Doctoral INPhINIT fellowships for talented early-stage researchers of any nationality to pursue their PhD studies in Spain or Portugal. NanoGUNE, the Basque Nanoscience Research Center, is a host organization of INPhINIT and offers up to 8 stimulating research projects to be carried out in a multidisciplinary and international research team, in the fantastic city of San Sebastian.

inphinitSponsored by "la Caixa" Foundation, INPhINIT is aimed at supporting the best scientific talent and fostering innovative and high-quality research in Spain and Portugal by recruiting outstanding international students and offering them an attractive and competitive environment for conducting research of excellence.

This program is divided into two different frames:

  • Doctorate INPhinit Incoming: 35 PhD fellowships. Candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the deadline for applications.
  • Doctorate INPhINIT Retaining: 30 PhD fellowships. Candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the deadline for applications.

The doctoral INPhINIT fellowships offer a highly competitive salary and complementary opportunities for training on transferrable skills through annual training sessions, incentives upon completion of the thesis, among other elements that make these fellowships some of the most attractive and complete in Europe.

The center: CIC nanoGUNE

NanoGUNE is the Basque Nanoscience Cooperative Research Center, a top research institution accredited with the Spanish Seal of Excellence Maria de Maeztu, which recognizes excellence at the highest international level in terms of research, training, human resources, outreach and technology transfer. Located in Donostia - San Sebastian, Basque Country (Spain), its mission is to perform world-class nanoscience research for the competitive growth of the Basque Country.

NanoGUNE was launched in 2006, thanks to the support of the Basque Government and other public institutions, as a non-profit making association. The official inauguration of the Center took place in 2009. Since the opening, we have been working hard with the aim of building up a research center and infrastructure that combine state-of-the-art research with a focus to industry.

We have an international team of 100 scientists (coming from more than 25 different countries) that are continuously making outstanding contributions to the fields of nanomagnetism, nanooptics, self-assembly, nanobiotechnology, nanodevices, electron microscopy, theory, nanomaterials, nanoimaging, and nanoengineering.

We have also founded 5 start-up companies: Graphenea (graphene production), Simune (atomistic simulations), Ctech-nano (thin-film coatings), Evolgene (enzyme design and production), and Prospero Biosciences (high-mass spectroscopy).

World-class nanoscience research, in close collaboration with other research laboratories and with industry, and a commitment to the society define the way we understand our activity.

Information about the center and life at nanoGUNE is accesible in these links.
