Jabier Larrañaga, Deputy for Economic Promotion, Tourism and the Rural Environment, and Jon Gurrutxaga, Director of Innovation and Internationalization of the Gipuzkoa Council, have been invited Today to learn about the high-level research and development that we carry out at nanoGUNE.

  • Dr. Lorenzo Fallarino has been recently nominated as Emerging Leader in Applied Physics

Dr. Lorenzo Fallarino, researcher in CIC nanoGUNE´s Nanomagnetism group, has been recently invited by the Editorial Board of Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics to publish a Topical Review on "Graded Magnetic Materials" and separately, he was nominated to contribute to a special issue of the journal highlighting the accomplishments of Emerging Leaders in the field of Applied Physics. Both invited articles have now been published.

  • Fèlix Casanova receives the 2020 Intel Outstanding Researcher Award

Ikerbasque researcher Fèlix Casanova, leader of CIC nanoGUNE's Nanodevices group, has recently been awarded with the Intel´s 2020 Outstanding Researcher Award, for his contributions in a disruptive technology for the electronics of the future: MESO technology.

  • CIC nanoGUNE´s research on light covered in Nature Photonics

Researchers from CIC nanoGUNE in collaboration with the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC) and the University of Oviedo employed a spectroscopic nanoimaging technique to study how infrared nanolight - in form of phonon polaritons - and molecular vibrations interact with each other. The work appears now on Nature Photonics cover.

  • More women in science

The research centers Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC), CIC nanoGUNE, Materials Physics Center (CFM CSIC-UPV/EHU), CIC biomaGUNE, Biodonostia, Tecnun-School of Engineers, Ceit, POLYMAT, Elhuyar, the Faculty of Informatics of the UPV/EHU-University of the Basque Country and Eureka! Zientzia Museoa (Science Museum) have come together to present a joint program to mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science scheduled for 11 February across the world. From that day onwards and in Donostia/San Sebastian the program Emakumeak Zientzian 2021 will be run throughout the month of February with workshops, public talks, family experiments, virtual visits, etc. largely adapted to the virtual format due to the health emergency. The initiative aims to make the activity of women in science visible, to break down the typically masculine roles attributed to scientific and technical activities, and to encourage girls and teenagers to opt for careers in science. Emakumeak Zientzian 2021 is being supported by the Chartered Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, Fomento San Sebastián, the National Research Council (CSIC) and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT).

  • 2021 nanoGUNE PhD Workshop: where do art and science meet?

The PhD students of nanoGUNE have organized a one-day ONLINE event to celebrate the 12th anniversary of nanoGUNE. The workshop is focused on the relation and coexistance of Science & Art.

  • NanoGUNE, the big challenge of the small

The book "NanoGUNE, txikiaren xarma" dealing with the setting-up and development of the CIC nanoGUNE research center from its very beginnings has just been presented this morning at nanoGUNE. The book sets out to explain to the general public how cutting-edge research is conducted in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. How does “the big challenge of the small” materialize on a day-to-day basis? How can a truly innovative, daring project come to fruition? The story answers this question.

  • Naëmi Leo receives the Hertha Sponer Prize

Naëmi Leo, researcher in the CIC nanoGUNE´s Nanomagnetism group, has been recently awarded with the Hertha Sponer prize of the German Physical Society (DPG), for her excellent contributions to the investigation and characterization of artificial metamaterials and ferroic systems.
