The IKUR community comes together at CIC nanoGUNE

17/07/2026

On 15 and 17 July, the IKUR research community organised two working sessions at nanoGUNE, aimed at sharing knowledge and advances and strengthening the collaboration between the IKUR Quantum Technologies and IKUR HPC−AI projects. The sessions had the participation of representatives from the Basque Government’s Department of Science, Universities and Innovation: Adolfo Morais, Deputy Minister for Science and Innovation, Amaia Esquisabel, Head of Science Policy and Maialen Agirre, Head of Innovation.

During the sessions, research groups presented the latest advances and milestones of the projects, whose implementation period runs until 31 December 2026. The event provided a space for sharing experiences, raising the profile of the research work being carried out and creating new opportunities for collaboration between the various working groups.

As well as providing an opportunity for keeping up to date with the projects, the event demonstrated the IKUR community’s commitment to scientific cooperation, research excellence and the creation of synergies in strategic areas for the Basque Country, such as quantum technologies and high-performance computing and artificial intelligence.

The sessions highlighted the value of collaborative work between research centres, universities and agents in the Basque R&D+I ecosystem, helping to accelerate the development of knowledge and the impact of the research in areas with great scientific and technological potential.

IKUR Strategy

IKUR 2030 Strategy is an initiative by the Basque Government’s Department of Science, Universities and Innovation and is aimed at developing the four scientific areas it considers a priority for the future of the Basque Country: Neurobiosciences, Quantum Technologies, Neutrionics and High-Performance Supercomputing and Artificial Intelligence (HPC−AI). By promoting these areas, the Basque Government seeks to strengthen the Basque Country’s position as a scientific hub of international renown and to develop excellence in basic science with economic and social impact.
