Science Week

This year, researchers from CIC nanoGUNE will also participate in the UPV/EHU Science Week. Together with researchers from the CFM, DIPC, and POLYMAT centers, we will lead the corner "Exploring the World of Materials" and we will guide the workshop "Scale-up your world".
This year, the program of activities in San Sebastián will take place at the International Center for Contemporary Culture Tabakalera, which will host the scientific corners and be the venue for the usual workshops, the science show for children, and also the Zientzia Club. Already at sea, this year it will be possible to fish for marine debris aboard the Mater boat.
Exploring the World of Materials
In this space, our goal is to bring the science that governs the nature of materials closer to all audiences. Knowing the properties of matter, studying its physics from an experimental and theoretical point of view, moving on the nanoscale, is fundamental for the development of new intelligent materials with multiple applications.
In this stand, we present a series of demonstrations and experiments that help us illustrate the scientific universe behind these "new" materials. We will learn about materials with fascinating properties that come to us thanks to scientific advances in fields such as nanoscience, polymer engineering, and materials physics in general.

Scale Your World
Date and Time: November 8, 2025 (Saturday), 10:15 (Basque, Spanish) Audience: 4-10 years old (minors must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Maximum two adults) Duration: 90 minutes
How far can our eyes see? What is the smallest thing you have seen? We will learn about macro, micro, and nanoscopic scales as a family with researchers from DIPC, CIC nanoGUNE, and CFM.
In the Tabakalera environment, we will collect samples as scientists, explore and scale the world through the magnifying glass, the microscope, and a homemade microscope that you can build yourself.
Workshop registrations can be made on the Zientzia Astea website: www.zientzia-astea.eus
