Emakumeak Zientzian, to benefit society as a whole
Twenty-four Basque organizations are joining forces around the Emakumeak Zientzian project, thus declaring their commitment to the objectives of the initiative: to make the activity of women in science visible, to break with the typically male roles attributed to scientific and technical work, and to encourage girls and adolescents to opt for scientific careers. With these objectives in mind, the organizations are coming together to run a joint program of activities to mark International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which is celebrated every year on February 11.
Women at the forefront of science and technology
Twenty-four Basque entities join forces around the Emakumeak Zientzian project by signing a new collaboration agreement, thus ratifying their commitment to the initiative’s objectives: make women’s activity in science visible, break with typically male roles attributed to scientific-technical activities and encourage the choice of scientific careers among girls and adolescents. With these objectives in mind, the entities join forces to organize a joint program of activities on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which is celebrated every year on February 11.
Jose Maria Pitarke, elected full member of Jakiunde
NanoGUNE's Director, Jose Maria Pitarke, was elected member of Jakiunde, the Basque Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters, on 18 November 2022 at the autumn plenary session held by the Academy in Argomaniz.
The exhibition A Walk through the Nanoworld comes to Bilbao
CIC nanoGUNE and the UPV/EHU’s Chair of Scientific Culture have organized the exhibition A Walk through the Nanoworld, which can be visited in the Bizkaia Aretoa of the UPV/EHU from 13 to 23 September. It is an exhibition that takes a look at spectacular images obtained using state-of-the-art microscopes, and the aim is to disseminate nanoscience in a visual and accessible way for members of the public of all ages.
The 10th edition of Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka will showcase 200 projects developed by young people during the academic year
The 10th edition of Elhuyar Zientzia Azoka, which once again this year has the collaboration of nanoGUNE, is already underway. From today until Sunday, 200 STEAM projects that students have developed during the course, as well as workshops, experiments and science shows will be at the Arenal in Bilbao. A total of 500 boys and girls will participate in this edition.
Emakumeak Zientzian gets off to a strong start
The Emakumeak Zientzian 2022 initiative, organized by seventeen Basque organizations to mark February 11, International Day of Women and Girls in Science, got off to a strong start. The launch held this morning in Donostia-San Sebastian was attended by Jabier Larrañaga, Head of Economic Promotion, Tourism and Rural Environment of the Charter Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, Marisol Garmendia, Head of Economic Development and Employment of Donostia-San Sebastian City Council, Aitziber L. Cortajarena, Scientific Director of CIC biomaGUNE, Ainhoa Lete, Co-founder and CEO of BuntPlanet, and Sandra Camarero, Ikerbasque researcher at POLYMAT, as well as the coordinators of the Emakumeak Zientzian 2022 initiative Mónica Moreno (POLYMAT) and Itziar Otegui (CIC nanoGUNE).

CIC nanoGUNE is awarded a project to investigate amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
The Spanish Foundation for the Promotion of Research into Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (FUNDELA) has awarded CIC nanoGUNE, a project to conduct research into amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), in collaboration with the ALS laboratory of the 12 de Octubre Hospital - “i+12” and the Genetics Service of the Ramón y Cajal-IRYCIS Hospital, belonging to the Center for Biomedical Research Network on Rare Diseases (CIBERER).
