The future of physics visits Donostia
The National Gathering of Physics Students (ENEF), the biggest annual event that brings together young people from across Spain who are studying this subject, is taking place this year in Bilbao throughout the week. As part of the programme, on Wednesday July 23 over 170 young students will be visiting the CIC nanoGUNE, CFM, and DIPC centres and the EHU’s Faculty of Chemistry.

During the event, over 170 students from across Spain will be gaining first-hand knowledge about the work being carried out at these four centres in their respective fields within the Basque scientific ecosystem; they will be sharing impressions with the research staff at each centre and discovering professional and training opportunities in one of the most active scientific hubs in the country. The programme for the day in Donostia will also include a round table discussion on quantum technologies and open to the university community.
Organised by the Students’ Group of the Spanish Royal Physics Society (RSEF), the ENEF seeks to bring together all the students of Physics across Spain, provide them with fresh opportunities on a national and international level and contribute to promoting the teaching and dissemination of this science.
The main aim of the gathering is to maximise the capabilities of each participant, by promoting their personal and professional growth through talks, workshops, competitions, a business fair, visits to laboratories and activities that connect young people with players in the field of science and technology.
“Visiting state-of-the-art centres in the field of physics allows students to connect with the science being done today, here and now. Beyond academic knowledge, experiences like these allow students to imagine possible career paths and foster new scientific interests. It is not every day that one gets to talk to researchers who are at the cutting-edge of physics. For many people, this experience is a turning point in their scientific vocation," added the organisers.
