- Nanodevices Group in Nature Materials- The progress article Spin routes in organic semiconductors written by Luis E. Hueso, leader of the CIC5 nanodevices group in nanoGUNE, together with V. Alek Dediu, Ilaria Bergenti & Carlo Taliani from the Institute for Nanostrucured Materials-CNR (Bologna, Italy), was published in Nature Materials on August 2009.
- Terahertz goes nano- A joint team of the Nanooptics Laboratory at nanoGUNE and the Nanophotonics Group at the Max-Planck-Institute of Biochemistry (Germany), in collaboration with the DIPC – CSIC UPV/EHU and Infineon Technologies AG (Munich), has recently achieved nanoscale resolved imaging in the terahertz (THz) frequency range (wavelengths between 30 and 1000 μm) by the use of near-field microscopy.
- Kursaal Congress Centre awards nanoGUNE- The third edition of the Kursaal Prizes for the Promotion of Conferences awarded nine institutions. The award-ceremony, that was celebrated at Kursaal on April 28, was chaired by the Major of the Provicial Council of Gipuzkoa.
- Presentation of the nanoBasque Strategy- On December 3, the nanoBasque Strategy was presented to the public in a ceremony chaired by the President of the Basque Government, Juan José Ibarretxe, and the Major of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, Markel Olano.
- A theoretical prediction by nanoGUNE's director, J. M. Pitarke, in collaboration with F. J. Garcia-Vidal and J. Pendry leads to the darkest material- In a recent letter published by the Journal Nano Letters it is reported the experimental observation of an extremely dark material made by a low-density nanotube array (read the abstract here).
- NanoGUNE celebrates 'Day One'- On December 1, the Director of nanoGUNE, José M. Pitarke, has made ‘Day One’ speech that celebrates the occupancy of the new nanoGUNE building and represents the starting point of a new period of activity.
- Alexander Bittner, new nanoGUNE Self-Assembly Group Leader- Starting June the first, Dr. Alexander Bittner has taken on his new responsibilities as the Group Leader of the Self-Assembly Group of nanoGUNE.
- Rainer Hillenbrand, new nanoGUNE Nanooptics Group Leader- Starting February the first, Dr. Rainer Hillenbrand has taken on his new responsibilities as the Group Leader of the Nanooptics Research Group at nanoGUNE. He previously worked at the Max-Planck Institut für Biochemie in Martinsried (near Munich), where he was the head of the nanophotonics group.
