Six CIC nanoGUNE scientists among the world’s most influential

CIC nanoGUNE has six of the world's most important researchers, according to the list drawn up by Stanford University and Elsevier, global information analytics business. The “Ranking of World Scientists” has highlighted the careers of the Ikerbasque researchers Mato Knez, Luis E. Hueso, Fèlix Casanova, Rainer Hillenbrand, Andrey Chuvilin and Paolo Vavassori at the Donostia-San Sebastian-based center nanoGUNE.

The nanomaterials group in nanoGUNE, led by Mato Knez, has developed a new technology called SCIP that allows an improvement of the mechanical properties of polymers. The technology can be directly applied to functionalize textile, opening new perspectives in product development in the sports/fashion or personal protection sector.

With respect to all the marine debris present in our oceans, that corresponding to plastics is growing and is having consequences for marine ecosystems and ourselves; these consequences deserve to be understood, prevented and, as far as is possible, neutralised. So on 1st and 2nd October the Basque nanoscience research centre CIC nanoGUNE hosted the event Plastics in our ocean. A micro or macro challenge?, which was co-funded by the European Commission through the European project EKLIPSE, Knowledge & Learning Mechanism on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, and had the collaboration of Zubigune.
